AUSTRIA. World-famous chef Wolfgang Puck has this week officially opened his first restaurant in his native Austria, at Vienna Airport. The ceremony to unveil the 700sq m dining venue in Terminal 3 arrivals was attended by more than 100 guests.
As reported, Wolfgang Puck Kitchen + Bar is operated in partnership with SSP Group. It features an open kitchen, bar and takeaway area, and serves classical international food, Wolfgang Puck signature dishes and gourmet pizzas.
Puck – who now has a portfolio of more than 100 restaurants worldwide – has earned two Michelin stars from his cooking talents. His success story began in 1982 with the Spago restaurant in Los Angeles, which remains a popular dining venue in Beverly Hills. For decades he has cooked for the stars on Oscars night in Hollywood.
Puck said: “I am so happy to finally return to Austria and to open our restaurant Wolfgang Puck Kitchen + Bar at Vienna Airport, the gateway to the world for so many, many people from all over Central Europe. It is a wonderful experience to be here.”
SSP Continental Europe CEO Jeremy Fennell said: “SSP is pleased to intensify our very good partnership with Vienna Airport thanks to the unique restaurant Wolfgang Puck Kitchen + Bar. It is a great honour for me and my team to have attracted the highly renowned celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck as a franchise partner.”
He added: “No other award-winning chef stands as much as Wolfgang Puck for Austrian cuisine combined with a twist of Californian healthy food.”
In a move to drive business to the Wolfgang Puck Kitchen + Bar beyond people who are flying to or from the Vienna Airport, guests can park in designated car parks at the travel hub with no charge if their bill at the new restaurant exceeds €20 (US$21).
Vienna Airport Joint CEO and COO of Vienna Airport Julian Jäger said: “Wolfgang Puck is one of the most successful Austrian restaurateurs and highly acclaimed across the globe. We are pleased that he decided in favour of Vienna Airport to open his first restaurant in his Austrian homeland and to come here to personally support its launch.
“Together with the airport experience of our long-term catering partner SSP and the top culinary know-how of Wolfgang Puck, we are able to offer our guests a new highlight at Vienna Airport.”
